Kids on Trains
This is going to be another post about children :) this time, from the real world of dreary daily commute. Today's commute had its breaths of fresh air in the form of three kids...
in the morning train..a lil boy (about 4-5 years), a girl strapped to her stroller (~3 years) and a mother who looked totally tired or uninterested in what the kids did. the mother is eating something off a sealable plastic cover (looked like some peanuts or marshmallows from a distance). the girl makes a short subdued scream and reaches out for the cover..the boy is tempted too and stretches his hand...the mother pushes past his hand and gives it to the daughter..(probably to keep her from screaming further) and turns her head away uninterestedly, ignoring the pleading look of her son. The lil boy tries to grab the pack from his sister twice, only to face the same short angry "aaaa" scream. His mother turns to give him a stressed out look. He keeps quiet for a couple of minutes while the girl almost pours the contents of the pack out, trying to get her small fingers around one single peanut / marshmallow.
She puts one in her mouth with a victorious smile at her brother..who is again tempted. This time, he has a new strategy. He cups his hands as if he is begging and stretches it to his sis, who has just managed to capture another one of the peanuts between her fingers. She looks at his hands, considers what to do, slowly smiles and puts it in his hand. She likes this new game and is all enthu to keep playing it. She picks up each piece one by one and takes it close to her mouth, sees her bro stretching his palms and after a moment's thought, puts it in his hand and laughs...while the brother smiles all-knowingly :)
in the evening, there was this tiny lil kid keeping thathaka pithaka steps in the train while his mother was holding him by one hand. they finally found a seat and the mother let the kid sit...the kid watched for a few minutes...figured out what to do, and then patted his lap saying "sit mommy" with all sincerity...the mother couldn't help smiling...neither could i :)
wish everyday had moments like this..the train journey would definitely feel shorter!
